Additional Home to Holly Springs (Father Tim, Book 1) Information

Readers of the nine bestselling Mitford novels have been captivated by Jan Karon’s “gift for illuminating the struggles that creep into everyday lives—along with a vividly imagined world” (People). Millions have relished the story of the bookish and big-hearted Episcopal priest and the fullness of his seemingly ordinary life. Now, in the first novels of a new series, Jan Karon enchants us with the story of the newly retired priest’s spur-of-the-moment adventure. For the first time in decades, Father Tim returns to his birthplace, Holly Springs, Mississippi, in response to a mysterious, unsigned note saying simply: “Come home.” A story of long-buried secrets, forgiveness, and the wonder of discovering new people, places, and depth of feeling, Home to Holly Springs will enthrall new readers and longtime fans alike.

What Customers Say About Home to Holly Springs (Father Tim, Book 1):

I am pleased with the book and the service. This book is like a refreshing drink of water. It is so good to enjoy the life and times of Father Tim again, and to find out what went before in his life.

By the other reviews of this book it doesn't seem like I will miss much. What a mistake not to continue with him. I SO wanted to like this book - but the narrator is so bad I couldn't get into the story at all. The previous narrator, John McDonough IS Father Tim.

A really great story. Learning about all the people who formed his spirit was interesting and inspiring. Not quite as lighthearted as the others, this story is emotional and moving. It was wonderful learning all about Tim as a child and then a young man, especially when remembered through his eyes as well.

It was like new.I am very pleased. Anyone who has enjoyed the Mitford Series, would like this book.Note*This is the first time I have purchased a used book. I enjoyed this story which is a continuation and an explaination of Father Tim's life and self evaluation. It does revert back to his childhood, and is sometimes difficult to follow the present vs. the past.Nevertheless it is written in the typical Jan Karon style with humor and good taste.

This narrator is not of the same calaber as John McDonough. Yankee people should just not go there. She was delightful & charming. There is no such thing. I realize any author wants to try new things.

THere are no fun, witty people. It is like a neighbor or some distant cousin wrote this book instead of Ms Karon. Where did she get this. We don't have ground hogs. Almost to the point of being offensive. This book has no charm. It is distasteful & in poor taste. It always goes horribly wrong. When I hear Mr McDonough narrating another book, I always feel like it's Father Tim narrating somebody else's book. The biggest thing that grates on me & has bothered several friends is the Southern things that are just WRONG in this book.

I even called a friend who's a big hunter. The thing that made us laugh the hardest was the ground hog hunting. And this book wallows in it. I work in Holly Springs. It has none of the wonderful people from Mitchard. I can fine none of her talent in the words. I enjoyed the Mitchard series so much, I went to Jan Karon's book signing for this book. I don't feel like this book is even about Father Tim without John McDonough to see it through.

I am through there all the time. No jokes & stories. Ms Karon is not in actuality as young as her photos appear. She was wobbling along in very high heels, of which she almost got knocked off of by my excited daughter. The bad narrating has already been mentioned. And when I say distasteful, I mean the words, the spirit of the book & the bad narrating. This book does not work.

This is not the same town, of any time period. I was really looking forward to this book. It's inevitable they try for a civil rights racial relations thing. But even when she moved Father Tim to another town, it worked. The narrator tries for different voices & fails horribly. No unusual people with interesting foibles. I am sure some old man put his whittling down to laugh himself to pieces over this.I really dislike it when Yankee people try to write about the South & get it wrong wrong wrong.

I am sure Ms Karon got tired of writing about the same people from the same little town. What was Ms Karon thinking. And I am deeply disappointed in it. I almost lived in history as my four year old daughter almost knocked her akimbo. The narrator's try at a "Southern" accent and an African American accent is in very bad taste. I think the old men in Minor Brothers Hardware Store she visted in Holly Springs while doing research thought this would be a better joke on Ms Karon than sending her snipe hunting is all I can think. Several Southern words, such as Sewanee College have been mispronounced.

No ground hogs, no ground hog hunting.
